The day I married my sister

I get it.. It sounds like this post should be a column in a trashy magazine or perhaps an episode of Jerry Springer, but indeed its not as bad as it first sounds. Perhaps I should clarify things a little? Maybe this post should actually start by saying ‘the first ceremony I was fortunate to perform solo as a celebrant was indeed to marry my sister….to her husband’.

What a lovely way to begin my business and their married life, surrounded by loved ones in small private ceremony with only direct family members present. What made the day even more special, was that their wedding date, the 27th March, was also the anniversary of both our parents and grandparents weddings some decades earlier.

That was some 7 years ago now, and I can joyfully say that they are still happily married with two young children (my niece and nephew) having since joining the McFerran clan.

I guess that is just one of the perks of being a celebrant. No, not that I get to creep people out by saying “I’ll marry you” or “I married my sister”, but moreover that I get to be a part of the weddings of my loved ones both family and friends.

While I love my industry, regardless of who is getting married, its always a treat when the wedding of a close friend or family member rolls around and I get to be a part of their day.
